I've read War and Peace three times over the last fifty years ( first in high school, then in college and a third time a few years back) and I plan to read it again. The series is long - 14 1/2 hours, I think, but it takes that long to unwrap the story of Russian Society and the effects of Napoleon's invasion. I really liked the battle scenes. Anthony Hopkins is the main star as Pierre Bezukhov, and how he grows from a drunkard and an admirer of Napoleon to a mature and wiser man. Anthony Hopkins plays a better Pierre than in the newer version.
